The UNC Center for Public Television (UNC-TV) is seeking a highly motivated, team-driven, and goal-oriented Major Gifts Officer to generate financial support through the stewardship and cultivation of current major donors as well as prospecting current members to begin supporting UNC-TV in a larger capacity. The successful candidate will possess excellent interpersonal and strong organizational skills and have a basic understanding of public broadcasting. Evening and weekend work is required. Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit

The UNC Center for Public Television functions to provide research, development, and production of noncommercial educational content and program materials and to provide distribution of noncommercial television programming through the broadcast facilities licensed to the University of North Carolina; otherwise to enhance the uses of television for public purposes.

The Development Division is responsible for the overarching revenue generation of UNC-TV that supports the ongoing operations, special projects and production funding needs that attract audiences. The major and planned giving unit’s primary purpose is to maximize the financial support of major donors and to increase planned gifts from legacy donors to help ensure the current and future financial stability of UNC-TV.

This position requires the ability to deal effectively with a wide range of individuals; knowledge of principles and techniques of fundraising relevant to major giving; understanding of individual donor needs and perceptions; demonstrated leadership and the ability to successfully manage multi-functional or diverse areas; excellent organizational skills, attention to detail and written and verbal communication skills; good listener, willingness to search out answers, and ability to recognize when others need to be involved in activities or decisions; willingness to work evenings and weekends.

Interest in public media and a dedication to promoting UNC-TV’s fundraising priorities by developing excellent relationships is preferred.

Undergraduate degree in marketing, communications, liberal arts, or a related field and at least five years directly related experience in fundraising, member/donor services is required.

• Demonstrated success in fundraising, cultivation, and solicitation.
• Demonstrated knowledge of fundraising best practices, preferably in public media.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and strong organizational skills required.
• Excellent listening, verbal, and written communication skills, including public speaking.
• Ability to perform in a deadline-sensitive work environment demanding high energy, as well as positive and flexible responsiveness to changing circumstances.
• Experience in soliciting/presenting blended gift proposals is preferred, but not required.
• Proficient experience preferred with non-profit giving and public broadcasting fundraising operations and experience with Microsoft Office suite, plus online fundraising programs.
• Ability to keep track of a large number of details in a complex, dynamic, and diverse environment.
