The primary focus of this position is to provide information and parking directions to visitors, volunteers and staff of the NC Arboretum.

Because work is performed outdoors under a variety of weather conditions, exposure to extreme heat and cold is unavoidable.

Responsibilities include:

- Effectively greeting customers with information concerning the event in a timely fashion at the gate entrance;
- Assist/direct drivers quickly and safely to open parking spaces;
- Direct visitors to entrance of Winter Lights (in our Baker Exhibit Center);
- Assist with the entrance and exit security of paying patrons;
- Assist with traffic cone clean-up after each evening’s event;
- Assist with clearing out the garden during shut down procedures of Winter Lights; and,
- Assist Campus Police with any other needs directed by the Officers on duty during a shift.

Evening, weekend and holiday work is required.

Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit

The Arboretum hosts an annual holiday season light show and celebration of winter in the garden. Guests walk through displays created from thousands of lights that will transform the Arboretum grounds and gardens into a nighttime wonderland and festival of family activities. Winter Lights offers a unique outdoor, evening experience for Arboretum guests and has created a new tradition for North Carolina and the Southeast.

SPA Minimum Qualifications

Requirements for this position include:

- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.;
- Ability to stand for long periods of time (approximately 6 hour shift with mandatory breaks);
- Ability to work in inclement weather conditions;
- Ability to properly operate a 2-way radio;
- Ability to work evenings, weekends and holidays as scheduled by the supervisor;
- Ability to work required shift hours of 4:30 to 11 p.m.;
- Ability to work in low light conditions with the aid of a LED traffic baton;
- Have a valid NC Driver’s license; and,
- Ability to maintain composure and positive attitude in stressful situations.

Hiring Salary Range

Pay is $12 per hour.
