The North Carolina State Education Assistance Authority, located in Research Triangle Park, NC, seeks applications for the position of Associate Director for Higher Education Programs of its Grants, Training and Outreach Division. The position’s primary purposes are:
• to provide professional leadership and expertise in postsecondary student financial aid to assist in agency policy and program formulation, development and implementation;
• to lead award origination services for postsecondary scholarship, grant and forgivable loan programs, including conceptualizing, designing and implementing innovative processes and activities for program operations and budget management, communications and evaluation while ensuring excellent customer service to students, families, and postsecondary institutions; and
• to manage training programs offered for financial aid administrators.

The successful candidate will be an individual who has demonstrated strong commitment to and professional knowledge of postsecondary student financial aid gained through a minimum of five to seven years of relevant work experience, including management-level work experience in financial aid program administration in higher education. He or she must have:
• excellent organizational skills;
• knowledge of and experience in program planning, implementation, and evaluation;
• ability to develop and use technical skills with financial aid application and administration software applications;
• experience with budget and information management, data reporting, forecasting and statistical methods,
• knowledge of analytics as a means to gain insights from data and to leverage technology to predict program use and impact;
• commitment to quality and innovation;
• excellent written and oral communications skills; and
• supervisory experience with demonstrated ability to lead and develop employees.

Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit

The State Education Assistance Authority is the State agency that promotes access to higher education by administering financial aid and savings programs, informing students and families about paying for college, teaching educators about financial aid administration, and advocating for resources to support students.

The Grants, Training and Outreach Division administers over 30 aid programs awarding almost $300 million to approximately 150,000 students each year. The Division conducts outreach programs to educate and assist North Carolina students and families with paying for college and training programs for financial aid professionals and school counselors. The Division also manages three K12 scholarship grant programs created by the North Carolina General Assembly.

Minimum of a master’s degree or other advanced degree and five years of relevant work experience, or Bachelor’s degree and seven years of relevant work experience in postsecondary financial aid administration in progressively responsible positions with institutions of higher education, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
